Microbats as small as mice dart through the trees. Echidnas share the same track. Bandicoots feed and a forest of frogs sing “I love the night life.” 

A ranger can provide an exquisite environmental tour. It’s a real experience. Our sensitivity keeps us in harmony with the environment. 

Our efforts have been recognised with environmental awards. We protect the marine life from acid soils. We use natural remedies for pest control. We recycle, compost and then recycle some more. 

We use solar power and LPG as our main source of power. Even for our vehicles. The native nursery is flourishing, and we offer a green thumb and a helping hand to the island’s flora. The environment is not a green moment, for us it’s second nature. 

Island Flora
Our island is just covered with beautiful native plant life. From rainforest to wetland, from sand dunes to open forest, it’s all so unique, it’s all so beautiful. 

What everyone really appreciates is how undisturbed the flora has remained. The brilliant green cabbage tree palms crowded into the rainforest make a stunning backdrop to a boardwalk stroll. On the other walking trails, you’ll see forest red gums, brush boxes and bloodwoods. While the wetlands are home to paperbark trees and rare and threatened orchids. 

Island Fauna
While you’re making your way over the sand dunes on the boardwalk, golden swamp wallabies are making their own way to the beach.

Look up, the sky is filled with colourful birds. Like the scarlet honeyeaters, rainbow lorikeets and jabirus. The noisy friarbird and whistling kite let you know that they are there.
